Turmeric is a perennial plant which is an herbaceous rhizome. Southeast India is said to be the native of turmeric. It has the color of yellow and is very much useful from very ancient days and is used even till date and will be used even in the future era. Almost every human being knows that turmeric has lot of medicinal values and is useful in lot many fields.

Turmeric is mainly prepared in a trivial manner of boiling the rhizomes for about 45 minutes and then it has to be dried completely. This then is ground to form a perfect powder and this gives the orange yellow powder which is nothing but turmeric powder. This is the method of preparation of turmeric.

Turmeric was first used as a dye when it was discovered. It was only later that its medicinal value was realised and used in medical field. Later it found its importance in many of the fields. The medicinal value of it made it to be used even in the field of cooking and today we use turmeric as one of the major ingredients in cooking too and it has been extensively used in the making of many of the homemade medicines. Not to forget, we also have to mention about the traditional and the ceremonial value it has in the Indian society. It has a very great importance in all the ceremonies and it deserves it all.
